Zambrano sent to Colorado, Comas signed
February 14, 2000 (Official Press Release)

The MetroStars received an allocation from Colorado in a trade for forward Henry Zambrano, it was announced today by general manager Nick Sakiewicz. With the allocation, MLS sent Colombian forward Alex Comas to the MetroStars. The team expects to receive another allocation later this week.

"Alex Comas is one the more talented strikers to come from the competitive Colombian league," said Sakiewicz. "We look to him to fill the scoring void this team sorely needs, as we continue to build the team for the upcoming 2000 MLS season."

Comas, 28, spent the last three years playing with Atletico Nacional in his native Colombian League. Prior to Nacional, he played domestically for Medellin ('91), Union Magdalena ('92), Juniors of Barranquila ('93), Deportes Quindio ('94), and America Cali ('95). He spent the '96 season playing for San Lorenzo in Argentina.

Known as a scorer, he led Colombia's '92 Apertura tournament with 10 goals for Union Magdalena. He also has experience with Colombia's National team scoring the tying goal in a 1-1 draw against Paraguay in New Haven, CT on March 29, 1998.

Comas joined the MetroStars in preseason camp on February 1st and signed a contract last night to officially join the team. He is expected to start in the MLS Spring Training 2000 game tonight at 8:00 p.m. ET against the Columbus Crew at Miami Fusion's Lockhart Stadium.

Zambrano joins the Colorado Rapids after registering three goals and three assists in 14 games for the MetroStars during the 1999 season. He joined the team in July from Atletico Nacional in his native Colombia.

"I am very pleased with the addition of Alex Comas to our soccer team," said head coach Octavio Zambrano. "With Comas, we hope to improve a part of our attacking game, which the MetroStars have been sorely lacking the last few years."
